Here is all the important information you need to know about the coaching process.
How the process works:
The coaching process starts out with an onboarding call where we talk about your vehicle ownership history, things you like and dislike about the vehicles you’ve had, been in, or test driven, and what you’d like to have in your next vehicle.
We’ll talk about your budget: what the sweet spot is the type of vehicle you’re looking at, what the total cost of ownership will be at that price point, and how that would change spending more or less.
Once we have a good idea of what you’re looking for TCF will suggest a few models that might fit your needs, and find clean examples of those models to test drive. The goal here is to get you to experience the vehicle, not consider it for purchase. By removing the pressure of evaluating it for purchase you’re free to focus on experiencing the vehicle.
After each round of test drives, usually just one but sometimes two or three, we’ll check in and see what you liked and didn’t like about each vehicle. The more verbose and honest you can be about your experiences the better we can guide you to your perfect vehicle.
Once we’ve figured out what the perfect model is for your needs, wants, and budget we’ll start hunting for purchase candidates. This can be done solely by TCF, or you can search too! When one us find a purchase candidate that looks appealing, you’ll go and test drive. If it looks good to you then TCF will inspect it. If the purchase candidate passes the inspection, congratulations! If not, we’ll keep looking until we find another candidate.
Each car buying journey is unique, and so is the timeline for us to get there. The Car Friend is here to help you keep your eye on the ball, stay motivated if you get worn down, and be there for you to explore your feelings on each vehicle. Because each journey is so unique we never make promises about how long it will take, however, an estimate can be made based on the vehicle type, budget, and time of year the search is started.
What’s expected of you, the client:
You’ll handle all communications with the seller.
You make your best effort to respond to messages from TCF in a timely manner, especially those related to checking out potential purchase candidates, deals don’t last.
You let us know if you plan on being off comms for more than a couple days at a time so we don’t set you up with test drives or purchase candidates during that time.
You let us know if you want to change your budget or other aspects of the vehicle you’re looking for.
You handle communication with all perspective sellers.
Important things to be aware of:
Your coaching package fee is paid in full before the process begins. This allows us to fully commit the time needed to onboard you.
Your coaching package includes the entire car coaching process and one vehicle inspection. Most journeys only involve a single inspection, but sometimes that first candidate fails and we need to do additional inspections. Any additional inspections are $200 a piece, $50 off the normal inspection price.
Your car coaching package fee is nonrefundable. If something happens where you are unable to continue mid process we may give you a partial refund at our discretion.
There is no way to fully predict the future maintenance needs of a used vehicle. We do our best to thoroughly and methodically on every vehicle we inspect but there is always plenty we cannot see, and we never make any guarantees on a used vehicles reliability.
Our service area is the Portland metro area including all of Portland, Beaverton, Gresham, Tigard, Gladstone, Happy Valley, and portions of other surrounding areas such as, Aloha, Tualatin, and Vancouver WA south of SR500 between I5 and I205.
We will service outside this area for an additional fee. Examples: Hillsboro, Troutdale, Northern Vancouver, and Wilsonville are $50 additional charge. Outside of Portland metro on a individual case basis.
