Here is all the important information you need to know about the inspection process.
What to expect from us, The Car Friend:
Your inspector will arrive onsite within a half hour window of the appointment. For example if the inspection is scheduled for 2pm the inspector will arrive between 2 and 230. If the inspector is going to be outside of that window they will reach out directly to the seller. If this this causes us to have to reschedule the inspection we’ll let you know immediately.
We’ll give you a call when the inspection is done and give you all the details. What kind of condition everything is in, if there are any problems or maintenance needed and what might be required to remedy said things.
Later in the day (often late into the evening) we’ll email you a report with all the details including everything we chatted about on the phone. Please review it fully before deciding whether to purchase the vehicle.
What’s expected of you, the client:
You’ll work with the vehicle’s seller to line up a time for the inspector to perform the inspection and handle all communications with the seller.
To confirm your appointment for an inspection, text or email us:
Your full name and email address for your report
The vehicle’s year, make, model, mileage
A link to the sale ad
The seller’s name, address, and phone number
Confirmation of the inspection time that the client confirmed with the vehicle seller
Inform us immediately if the vehicle sells or you decide you’re not moving forward with the purchase and want to cancel the inspection. See late cancellation fee details below.
Important things to be aware of:
If you cancel the inspection less than 24 hours before the inspection time you will have to pay a $100 late cancellation fee.
There is no way to fully predict the future maintenance needs of a used vehicle. We do our best to thoroughly and methodically on every vehicle we inspect but there is always plenty we cannot see, and we never make any guarantees.
Trouble codes may be unclear as to their cause, especially if there are multiple codes. We’ll give you the code numbers, title of the codes, and our best guesses as to the cause. In certain situations determining the cause of the codes may be out of scope for the inspection.
It is extremely rare that vehicles less than $15k are issue free. Most vehicles at this price point or less will require a few grand in maintenance out of the box. Requiring normal maintenance doesn’t cause a vehicle to fail inspection on its own, but it may make purchasing the vehicle an unwise economic decision.
Our service area is the Portland metro area including all of Portland, Beaverton, Gresham, Tigard, Gladstone, Happy Valley, and portions of other surrounding areas such Troutdale, Aloha, Tualatin, and Vancouver WA south of SR-500 between I-5 and I-205.
We will service outside these area for an additional fee. Examples: Hillsboro and Northern Vancouver are $50 extra and Salem is $100 extra.
